Crazy Love Book

So I picked up Francis Chan’s book “Crazy Love” a few weeks ago and wanted to share a little from the chapter I’m reading. Chapter 4 describes people who are just living “lukewarm” lives for God, but there was a statement about 2/3 through the chapter that just really hit me.

“LUKEWARM PEOPLE do not live by faith; their lives are structured so they don’t have to. They don’t have to trust God when something unexpected happens - they have their savings account. They don’t need God - they have their retirement plan. They don’t genuinely seek out what life God would have them to live - they have life figured and mapped out. They don’t depend on God on a regular basis - their refrigerators are full, and for the most part, they are in good health. The truth is, their lives wouldn’t look much different if they suddenly stopped believing in God.”

This quote shouldn’t totally be a measuring tool for our faith, but should be reminder to live differently and otherly from this world. That sometimes faith and our pursuit of God isn’t or shouldn’t always easy.

“12Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.

14Do everything without complaining or arguing, 15so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe 16as you hold out[c] the word of life—in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing. 17But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. 18So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.”
Phil 2:12-18

  1. Prov. 30:7-9

    7 “Two things I ask of you, O LORD;
    do not refuse me before I die:

    8 Keep falsehood and lies far from me;
    give me neither poverty nor riches,
    but give me only my daily bread.

    9 Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you
    and say, ‘Who is the LORD ?’
    Or I may become poor and steal,
    and so dishonor the name of my God.

    Chan ask in one of his video blogs could we pray this prayer . . .
